Striking doctors have said they are ready to defend their action at the high court as they seek to dismiss a suit brought against them by a human rights activist.
Edward Amuzu, a human rights activist, filed the process at the high court seeking to impose an injunction to stop the strike. He is also asking the court to declare the doctor’s strike illegal.
Mr. Amuzu told Joy News he has gone to court because the law allows that “if any Ghanaian reads through what is happening and thinks that all is not being strictly complied with, then you have a right to engage the processes and get the courts to listen to you and make pronouncements as to whether the processes are being followed or not”.
But President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Kwabena Opoku Adusei also said the GMA is ready to mount a strong defense to have the case dismissed.
Mr. Adusei recalled a similar incident in 2011 where the case was thrown out. “We are not afraid of court” he said.
The case will be heard at the high court on Thursday.
