Students of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have been educated on the need to employ proper health practices in everyday life.
Dr. Theophilus Kwofie at the Department of Clinical Microbiology, KNUST, echoed the need for students to engage in preventive health practices which he says contribute to healthy lifestyle.
He was speaking at a mini clinic organized as part of the annual SRC Week celebration of the School. Activities for the occasion included blood donation to replete the Komfo Anokye Blood Bank, medical screening and consultation.
Dr. Kwofie entreated students to desist from excessive alcohol intake, smoking and poor eating habits, which according to him, may be detrimental to their health.
“In my opinion, education is key to effective preventive health practice amongst students and I think the SRC can contribute effectively to this”, he stressed.
Meanwhile, food sellers at the KNUST have been undergoing a compulsory medical screening intended to validate their fitness to sell to students.
Officials of the programme explained the exercise is to curb infectious diseases among the student population.
SRC Vice President, Evans Addo disclosed that the SRC would continue stimulate students to tread the right path in promoting healthy lifestyles through such exercises.
The event committee chairman, Charles Kwanin Boakye added that the health of students is paramount to the SRC, hence the investment.
