Sudan’s Ghanaian assistant coach, Ignatius Osei Fosu, has revealed that their target for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is to emerge as champions.
If that were to happen, it would be the first time the war-torn country lifts the title in 54 years. Their only triumph came in the 1970 edition when the Falcons of Jediane hosted and won the AFCON.
Sudan beat Ghana in the final to win their only title.
"Our expectations going into the AFCON 2025 is to win, and we believe that we have the quality to do that,” Osei Fosu told 3Sports.
He added, “Kwasi Appiah goes into every game with the expectation to win, and that is exactly what we are going to do in Morocco, but we will take it game after game.”
Sudan earned four points from the Black Stars en route to qualifying for the 2025 AFCON in Group F, drawing 0-0 in Ghana before winning 2-0 in the reverse fixture.
Kwasi Appiah’s team finished second in the group, while the Black Stars placed bottom without winning a game.
Ignatius Osei Fosu has been working as assistant to Kwasi Appiah since September 2023 and has now helped secure AFCON qualification. Sudan is also top of their World Cup qualifying group.
