Information reaching Myjoyonline.com indicates the group that filed a law suit against the sale of 70% shares of Ghana Telecom to Vodafone Group Plc in August 2008 have decided to withdraw it.
The suit pending before an Accra Commercial Court was initiated by some members of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) when the government went ahead to sell the shares that earned it $900m despite protest from various quarters.
The plaintiffs led by Prof. Agyemang Badu Akosa took the Attorney General and Ghana Telecom now Vodafone to court claiming that the entire sale of the country’s only telecommunication company was illegal.
The rest of the group are; Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, Naa Kordai Assimeh, Kosi Dedy, Ms Rodaline Imoru Ayarna and Kwame Jantuah.
However, the group decided to seek out-of-court settlement following the current government’s decision to review aspects of the agreement.
The Ghanaian Chronicle Friday reported that the counsel for the plaintiffs, Mr Bright Akwetey, on Thursday told the court presided over by Justice Henry A. Kwofie that his clients are in a discussion with the Attorney-General in respect of the issue and would, therefore, not request the court to deal with an application regarding an aspect of the plaintiffs’ claim that had already been placed before the court.
Mr. Akwetey, therefore, sought an adjournment of the case to deal with the issue at hand. The court then suspended sitting to June 29, 2009 to await the outcome of the planned discussions.
According to a Joy News’ report, the CPP group, however hinted a possibility of going back to court if they are not satisfied with the outcome of talks that they would hold with the Attorney General who is a defendant
