An alleged armed robber who escaped from police custody in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region some two weeks ago has been re-arrested.
Kweku Yeboah, 23, was apprehended at dawn on Monday, May 16, at his hide out in his hometown at Kwetri-Adentia with two accomplices.
Yeboah allegedly led a robbery attack at Ohene Djan, a suburb of Abisem near Sunyani on the evening of May 2, 2016.
A trader, Kate Wilson was robbed of a bag containing an amount of ¢2,500.The suspect was arrested and handed over to police after he was nearly lynched by residents.
Yeboah was sent to the regional hospital due to the severe injury his sustained but later absconded under police guard. The residents of the town expressed fear after his escape.
A ten-day ultimatum given to the policeman under whose watch the robber escaped, elapsed on Monday, May 16.
Confirming his re-arrest to Joy News' Precious Semevoh, the Regional Police PRO, ASP Christopher Tawiah said it took a crack police team to arrest him at about 2:00 a.m. on Monday.
ASP Christopher Tawiah also revealed that a departmental inquiry into the circumstances which led to his escape will continue.
He said he visited the suspect in custody and found him to be in good health and he is currently being prepared for court.
ASP Tawiah assured residents that the police will continue its regular patrols to ensure maximum security of residents and properties.
Meanwhile, husband of the woman who was robbed by the suspect has expressed gratitude to the police and all who aided in the re-arrest of the suspect.
