The Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to impress Thursday afternoon, beaten 2:1 by a history challenged Greece side at the ongoing 2010 World Cup in South Africa.Greece, who were seeking their first ever goal at the World Cup finals, got two that also won them the match against the Super Eagles. The Africans had lost their opening Group B game by a lone goal to Argentina, thus hanging their quest for qualification to the next round of the tournament rather precariously.Argentina have already booked a second round ticket after whipping South Korea 4:1 while the Koreans had themselves pipped Greece by a lone goal.Permutations
Argentina with 6 points from the two games, play as favourites against Greece on June 22. The Nigerians take on the Koreans who have three points as Greece on the same date. The Super Eagles have a slim chance of qualifying to the next round of the tournament though, but they must beat the Koreans by no less than a two-goal margin and hope that group leaders Argentina, while thumping Greece, will not concede any goal. But against Greece, Nigeria gave an early albeit false impression they were ready to ride their destiny, racing into a 16th minute lead through Kalu Uche.Goals from Dimitrios Salpingidis (44') and Vasileios Torosidis (71') torpedoed that dream, helped largely by the sending off of Sani Kaita just after 30 minutes.Story by Isaac Yeboah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
