The 2024 Suaman Constituency parliamentary candidate for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), John Asare, has urged the government to invest in farming in the country.
His call follows protests by some farmers in the Western North Region over the last week against the government’s decision to cut the producer price of cocoa.
During the demonstration at Sefwi Wiawso, the farmers voiced their frustrations and concerns to the government.
John Asare, who joined the demonstrators, has called on the government to implement effective measures to support farmers across the country.
Citing the unfortunate incident at the Ghana-Burkina Faso border, which claimed several lives, Asare believes it could have been prevented if the government had supported indigenous farmers.
He passionately appealed to the government to extend a helping hand to revive the declining farming sector in the country.
Additionally, he called on the leadership of cocoa farmers to engage their members on the new cocoa price cut in order to resolve the recent impasse.
