Controversy is brewing in the Asunafo South District following a violent clash between supporters of the District Chief Executive, Mr. Yaw George Boakye, an aspirant contesting the constituency’s primary, and supporters of Mr. Eric Opoku, the Member of Parliament of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Supporters of the MP alleged that the DCE was training ‘macho men’ to intimidate NDC supporters.
Nii Locoh, an NDC activist, alleged that he was one time brutalised and received knife cuts on his head and other parts of his body inflicted by one of the DCE’s alleged trained personnel at Sankore.
When contacted by the Ghana News Agency at Sankore, Mr Boakye denied the allegation, saying he had no right to train any personnel or any macho men as the practice was contrary to the laws of the land.
“As a peace maker and a political leader I cannot visit such mayhem on the people I am supposed to lead in development”, he said.
Nana Yaw Adusei III, Omanhene of Sankore Traditional Area, has sounded a word of caution to political groupings to desist from acts that would lead to chaos in the area.
He said a traditional committee meeting had been held to that effect and any youth caught disturbing public peace would be made to face the full rigours of the law.
He said although traditional rulers were not to engage in active partisan politics they would not sit down for something to happen before they would scramble for a solution.
Nana Adusei called on the DCE and the MP to bury their political differences and promote peace and development in the district.
