.One of two persons arrested for kidnapping a 14-year-old boy in Kumasi has confessed to the crime and is asking for forgiveness.
Unemployed Charles Appiah, 38, says he regrets playing a part in the act which, according to him, has brought shame to his family.
Appiah and his 29-year-old accomplice, Manasseh Fumey, a security guard who reportedly seized the victim at KNUST Junction, were arraigned on Thursday.
The two suspects were put before the court after they were arrested on Monday when relatives of the JHS 2 pupil reported to the police that the boy had gone missing for days.
Police say the suspects lured the boy from his family home at Kwamo, near Ejisu, and took him to Apatrapa in Kumasi.
Shouts for help by the victim attracted passers-by who informed the police, leading to his rescue from a secluded two-storey building.
Appiah and Fumey face charges of conspiracy to commit crime and kidnapping, both of which are second-degree felonies.
Prosecution pleaded with the court to remand them into police custody for further investigations and withdrawal of the case to a Circuit Court for lack of jurisdiction.
The Magistrate, Michael Ocloo, however, remanded the two into prison custody to re-appear on April 4.
Even before his plea was taken, Charles Appiah who confessed to masterminding the kidnapping told the court he has regretted his action for which he wants to be forgiven.
"I deeply regret my action. I feel so sorry for my wife, children and my entire family. I want Ghanaians to forgive me for my sins
“The moment the police picked me up, I felt remorseful…all those who know me should forgive me," he cried.
Meanwhile, two accomplices, identified only as Felix and Augustine are on the run and police have declared them wanted.
