Political parties in the Talensi constituency are gearing up for a bye-election following the enskinment of NPP MP as a Tongo chief in the Upper East region
Robert Nachinab Doaneng was enskinned Wednesday afternoon at a ceremony in the Northern region.
The death of Tongo-Raana Sapaalug-Namalteng Boara Yenga Kolbil opened the way for a new chief.
This is the second time the MP has vied for the chieftaincy position after his first attempt in 2007.
But his enskinment has also freed up the seat for the first bye-election after the 2012 general elections.

2012 parliamentary election results in Talensi constituency
Article 276 of the 1992 Constitution states: (1) A chief shall not take part in active party politics; and any chief wishing to do so and seeking election to Parliament shall abdicate his stool or skin.
(2) Notwithstanding clause (1) of this article and paragraph (c) of clause (3) of article 94 of this Constitution, a chief may be appointed to any public office for which he is otherwise qualified.
