The Mayor of Tamale, Abu Takoro, says the Tamale Metropolis is at the forefront of rapid transformation, with notable improvements in education and infrastructure.
Speaking at the 69th Anniversary Parade in Tamale on March 6, Mr Takoro highlighted the Assembly's achievements, including the procurement of 1,170 dual desks, 1,450 mono desks, and 480 tables and chairs for junior high schools.
"We've seen a lot of reforms and massive capital injections in the education sector," he said, adding that the Students' Loan Trust Fund, launched in Tamale, aims to ease the burden of financing tertiary education for parents and students.

He said the government has also initiated construction projects, including a 6-unit classroom block at St. Pauls basic school, Gumbihini, and a KG block at Lamashegu South primary "B".
The Mayor commended the people of Tamale for embracing the NDC Government's Resetting Agenda and policies, and appealed for cooperation in maintaining law and order, citing a rise in drug abuse among youth as a major concern.

"The abuse of hard drugs among the youth is on the rise and is directly responsible for the crime rate in the metropolis," he said.
He added the government has also launched the National Sanitation Day Exercise, urging citizens to participate in monthly cleaning exercises to improve neighborhood cleanliness.
“I wish to make a clarion call to the clergy, Islamic clerics, and eminent chiefs to support METSEC in combating this menace,” he urged.
