One of the leading banks in Ghana, the HFC bank, has expanded its services to the northern sector of the country.
The bank opened its eleventh branch in the northern regional capital, Tamale, at the weekend.
The move is aimed at facilitating the process of wealth creation in the region which is believed to be one of the poorest in the country.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Managing Director of the bank, Mr Asare Akuffo, stated that the bank had been appointed by the government to partner it (government) in the provision of mortgage facilities to enable public sector workers in the country to access reasonable mortgage facilities.
Cataloguing services that the branch would offer to its consumers in the Tamale metropolis and its environs, Mr Akuffo mentioned mortgage finance, through commercial banking, micro housing finance, micro business finance, and Small Medium Scale Enterprise banking.
According to him, no other bank in Ghana was providing that range of services, and therefore, encouraged workers in the region to take advantage of the relatively cheaper mortgage facilities that were being provided by the bank.
The HFC bank started its operations as a mortgage finance company in 1990, and became a universal bank in 2003.
The bank, according to the Mr Akuffo, has contributed tremendously to the economic stability in the country, while improving its own standing in the financial market.
HFC bank is ready to expand its operations to meet current industry demands, while more branches would be opened to make the services of the bank accessible to all, he stated.
The bank’s official records show that its expansion works has yielded positive results reflecting in more that 60 per cent growth in deposits and total assets over the past two years.
Explaining the rationale for the selection of the Tamale metropolis for the branch, Mr Akuffo said the region had a huge potential for economic growth in the three northern regions.
