The Tamale Metro Assembly has held a decongestion exercise around the Tamale Interchange ahead of the commissioning.
President Nana Akufo-Addo is scheduled to visit the Northern Regional Capital on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, to commission the area's first interchange.

The decongestion exercise around the enclave of the Interchange is to allow free flow of traffic and safety of the people.
Speaking to the media after the exercise, the Mayor of Tamale, Sule Salifu, said the traders will be moved to satellite markets in the area.
He said the market women would be moved to the Kukuo market whiles the tipper drivers will be relocated to the Kakpagyili market.

"We have an alternative for them and that is the Kukuo market which is not far from town; that is around Tamale Teaching Hospital. I believe that if they go by this directive we will certainly succeed," he said.
The Mayor said they have consulted widely and also done sensitisation for the past one month on the need to relocate.
He said some people relocated before the deadline, adding that those who refused to move have had their wares ceased and moved to the assembly. According to him, these persons will be made to pay before their goods are released.

"I want to thank the chiefs for the support they have lent to us in the decongestion exercise and I want to appeal to them to continue to support us so that we can sustain the decongestion the taskforce has done around the Interchange enclave," he added.

He said in order to stop people from crossing haphazardly around the Interchange, the assembly will be engaging the consultants to see what can be done to stop people from crossing the pavement indiscriminately.
Mr. Sule thanked the President for honoring his word by providing the city with the first Interchange.
