Residents of Northern Regional capital Tamale on Monday went ahead with the celebration of the fire festival in defiance of a ban.
The Regional Security Council imposed the ban citing security concerns and a possible breach of the peace in parts of the region if the celebration of the festival was allowed.
But Joy News correspondent Mahama Shaibu reported that thousands of people wielding cutlasses, musketry and other weapons lit torches and danced through the streets of Tamale to celebrate the fire festival.
