In another development, the IGP’s Special Operations Taskforce last week arrested 19 persons in the Tamale metropolis for their involvement in illicit drug peddling.
The task force launched a campaign in the Northern Regional capital to rid the metropolis of illicit drug peddlers and clamp down on criminal hideouts.
The all-male suspects are made up of five suspected drug peddlers, 13 gang members and one individual found in possession of a firearm and ammunition without lawful authority.
The task force recovered and secured quantities of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, sachets of substances suspected to be cocaine and one single-barrel gun, along with 13 BB cartridges.
Other items retrieved during the operation were motorbikes, suspected to be stolen, as well as mobile phones and assorted electronic devices.
"All exhibits have been catalogued and securely stored,” the police said in a report, and added that “all suspects were detained at the Tamale Regional Police Headquarters for screening, profiling and further investigation”.
