Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has questioned the rationale behind the two year suspension handed to the NPP stalwart, Dr. Wereko-Brobby.According to him, the former VRA boss was only expressing his views about activities that are inimical to the growth of the party and wonders how expressing an opinion will end up in a suspension.The news of his suspension was reported first by the New Statesman on Tuesday, July 9 at a time Wereko-Brobby had not been informed.Nana Akomea, Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said it was unfortunate that the decision on the suspension was leaked to the newspaper before communicating it to Wereko-Brobby.Tarzan, as he is affectionately called, was not bothered at all by the suspension and rather accused the party leadership of not being credible.Speaking on Asempa FM’s political talkshow Ekosi-Sen on Thursday, Kofi Adams noted that the suspension of Dr. Wereko Brobby is a political agenda of the leadership of NPP to deny him the right to contest the upcoming primary of the party as chairman.He said that if the suspension of Tarzan is not a political agenda, how can he be punished for just expressing his opinion as a member of the party?“As for Wereko-Brobby I think it is the decision of the party but I disagree. If it is a strategy of the party leadership to deny Wereko-Brobby of contesting the upcoming elections of the party, only God knows. Other than that I don’t see why a person will be suspended for just expressing his opinion about wrongdoings in the party? This can only be a political agenda” he bellowed.Mr. Kofi Adams described the suspension to the former VRA boss as selective justice by the NPP.He wondered why another stalwart of the party, Appiah Ofori who accused some Members of Parliament of receiving bribes was not suspended. “In the past many have said worse thing against the party than what Tarzan said but were not suspended. Former MP, Appiah Ofori accused Members of Parliament of the party of receiving $5000 before approving the sale of Ghana telecom to Vodafone. I never saw him receive punishment because it is very damaging to the party than Wereko Brobby’s opinion which I think is legitimate. I don’t think telling the party that their star witness in the election petition is clueless should warrant a 2 year suspension”.The spokesperson to former president Rawlings chided the party for leaking the suspension of Tarzan to the media before communicating it to him, an act, he noted approved of the party supporters who wanted to beat him up when he appeared before the disciplinary committee of the party.He wished the NPP well and urged them to settle all internal matters in order to come strong as a formidable party to offer diverse views about the governance of the country.
