The former President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation Ghana and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accounts, Ghana has petitioned the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) over the monies stolen from the house of the former Sanitation Minister.
Mike Kofi Afflu asked the Authority’s Commissioner to conduct a comprehensive tax audit on Cecilia Abena Dapaah.
According to him, the audit is to ensure transparency, accountability and the rule of law in the country.
He further noted that the probe is in line with Section 28 (3) of the Revenue Administration Act 2016, (Act 915), which states that it is a crime for one not to file his/her returns, as well as, Sections 37 and 38 of the Revenue Administration Ad 2016, (Act 915), which empowers the Commissioner-General to the GRA to make a pre-emptive assessment of payable or to become payable by a person under a tax law whether or not the person is required to file a tax return.
“As a citizen of Ghana, I am deeply troubled by recent revelations regarding the discovery of various sums of cash in different currencies at the residence of Mrs Cecilia Dapaah, the former Minister for Sanitation.
“The news of this discovery has sparked significant public concern and has raised questions about the potential tax implications of such large sums of money found in her possession.
"Given the esteemed role she played in the government, it is crucial that all necessary legal procedures and tax laws are followed to uphold transparency, accountability, and the rule of law in our beloved nation,” part of the petition read.
