A teenage hairdresser apprentice, who dumped her one-month old baby girl near the Tepa Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church building, in the Ahafo-Ano North District has been arrested.
Hawa Tahiru, 17, abandoned the child at about midnight on Friday, March 11, together with a travelling bag, containing her Voter Identification (ID) Card and other personal effects.
Passers-by, who heard the shrill cries of the baby went to her rescue and sent her to the Tepa police station.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Adu-Boahen, the District Crime Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that Hawa was arrested when she went to the police station, carrying a friend's five-month old baby, to claim ownership of the bag.
The suspect lives with the uncle at Agona in the Western Region and abandoned her apprenticeship training when she became pregnant to join the parents at Tepa.
ASP Adu-Boahen said the baby was doing well and had been handed over to the grandmother.
Hawa, he said would be put before court as soon as they complete investigation.
