Teenage pregnancy remains a challenge in Nadowli District
The Nadowli district heath director of the Ghana health services, Florence Angsongmwine has stated that teenage pregnancy remains a challenge in the district.She made this known during the commissioning of a fifty-four thousand Ghana cedis(GH C54,000) Community based Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound at Owlo in the Nadowli district.
Mrs. Florence Angsongmwine urged stakeholders to fight against it, adding that a concerted effort is needed to reduce it in the district.He therefore appealed to the people to advocate for the importance of girl-child education.The Nadowli district Director of Health said the district management team has intensified adolescence health services. This they have done by training peer educators, forming school health clubs, young mothers clubs in addition to organising meetings and durbars improve the health of the adolescent, especially the girl-child.Mrs Florence reminded the people about the emergence of health style diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and gout.She pleaded with them to make an effort to live a healthy life by eating plenty fruits, drinking more water and doing lots of exercise. She advised them to avoid excessive intake of alcohol.She also advised them to stop abusing drugs, more so when a number of people have developed a sub-culture of buying drugs in the market.‘‘I want to use this opportunity to suggest to you to think about it seriously and avoid buying drugs from our numerous drug peddlers in the district that we are trying to control’’.The Nadowli district Chief Executive, Abu Kabienbata Kansangabata expressed joy over the commissioning of the project saying it will give the people of Owlo and its environs access to health delivery without travelling longer distance.He said the policy of the National Democratic Congress government led by President Mills will leave no stone unturned in providing quality and decent health care delivery at the door step of every Ghanaian irrespective of the location.‘‘In pursuance of this, the district assembly in collaboration with development partners have so far constructed and operationalised 16 CHPS Compound including one at Nyimabale which is completed and waiting to be commissioned’’The Nadowli district Chief Executive re-echoed the assembly’s commitment to sponsoring 15 students every year to pursue advance midwifery program.The Nadowli DCE revealed that the assembly has sourced funding from the Japanese government to start the first phase of the Nadowli district hospital twins children ward project.He added that plans are far advanced to construct a theater and X-RAY Department for the Nadowli hospital.He announced that the assembly is constructing a maternity block for the Isa clinic with the Ghana Social Opportunity Project (GSOP).Hon. Abu advised the people to take advantage of the numerous social intervention project that have been initiated by the people, especially the GSOP to improve their well being
