The Greater Accra Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDEC) on Tuesday asked the party to adhere to its own directives that any executive member who wished to contest for a parliamentary seat should resign his post. A press statement signed by Mr. Fred Agbenyo, President, Greater Accra TEIN said, “the resolve of our national executives to see justice prevail throughout the country, especially on the election day must not be compromised for individual parochial interest”. It asked; “On the event that a national executive also seeks a parliamentary mandate in his constituency, where will his attention be during and on election day?” The statement said that, if there was any wisdom in the directive then the same article should be applied to other national executives. The statement said research had shown that, “Ghanaians are willing and ready to hand over the mandate and governance of this country to the NDC considering the many woes in which the nation has been plunged by the Kufuor administration for the past seven years. “It is therefore expedient for the NDC to do its homework very well and position itself strategically to take up the mandate.” The statement called for focus and vigilance and asked the entire leadership of the NDC to critically examine contestants of parliamentary seats in their various constituencies so as to regain power in the December 2008 elections.Source: GNA
