Telecel Ghana has hosted over 100 young girls from the Northern, Eastern and Savannah regions for a day of ICT training and mentoring at its head office in Accra.
The annual Girls in ICT Open Day is an initiative by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation aimed at inspiring and educating young women about the skills and opportunities available in the technology sector.
The girls were welcomed by members of the Senior Management Team and then received training on foundational data analytics, robotics, cybersecurity, networks, and digital transformation along with mentorship sessions from Women in Technology at Telecel Ghana, to gain valuable insights into the world of technology and innovation.
The mentorship sessions featured female tech team leaders who shared their experiences and offered guidance to aspiring young girls, stressing the importance of upskilling, collaboration, and innovation in achieving success in the tech industry.
"We believe that empowering young women with technology is essential for creating a more inclusive and innovative future," said Mrs. Juliana Ametorwogo, President of Women in Technology at Telecel Ghana.
"By hosting these amazing young girls in practical workshops and mentorship sessions, we hope to inspire them to pursue tech careers and become leaders in the digital world."
The initiative, aligned with the global push to bridge the gender gap in technology, provided a platform for girls to explore various aspects of digital technology.
Participants had the opportunity to engage in practical exercises, such as building simple robots and developing basic coding projects.

These hands-on activities sparked creativity and ignited a passion for technology among the young girls.
Director of Legal and External Affairs, Augusta Andrews, said the interactive and practical sessions will go a long way to nurture these young talents and contribute to creating a more inclusive tech ecosystem.
“Investing in improving the digital capabilities of young women is a step in the right direction towards the development of a skilled and diverse future workforce that benefits not just businesses but the country.
"We believe in inspiring these girls to pursue careers in technology and become leaders in the digital age,” Augusta added.
The participants expressed their appreciation and renewed enthusiasm for technology after benefitting from the opportunity to learn new tech and digital skills and gain exposure to the tech industry.
The successful hosting of the Girls in ICT Open Day demonstrates Telecel Ghana's dedication to partnerships, corporate social responsibility, and its role in empowering the next generation of leaders.
