Ing. Ben Sackey, Project Manager for the 19.5km Tema Motorway and Extensions Project, has reassured commuters that efforts are underway to make the route fully motorable.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, January 12, he noted that Maripoma Enterprise Ltd, the contractor overseeing the project, is committed to ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for road users.
"We are not relenting on our efforts to try to ensure that the motorway or the contractor activities are not impacting negatively on the road users," he said when asked about the state of work on the stretch.
He added that the team is taking measures to prevent dust along the route, regularly watering sections of the road to improve commuting conditions.
"So we have been trying as much as possible to water the road, where we have the diversions, we are trying to make sure that it is motorable."
A 19.5km stretch of the over six-decade-old road is currently undergoing rehabilitation and extension works. The project began earlier but slowed down ahead of the 2024 elections. The ongoing works continue to cause heavy daily traffic, with commuters struggling against dust.
