Tension is reportedly mounting in Mepe in the North Tongu district of the Volta region.
It followed attempts by rival gates to install two paramount chiefs for the same area.
The immediate past Assemblyman for Mepe, Nanewortor Agbemanor, who called into Joy FM’s studios said there were sporadic shootings when the two gates “clashed” on Sunday morning.
Quite a number of people, he said, were injured in the process.
He claimed that the District Security Council was prompted about the “eminent danger” and the need to halt the installations, but said because it was a chieftaincy issue the council hesitated in getting involved.
He however remarked: “They cannot wait for people to start dying before they come in.”
Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for North Tongu Bubey Dzinadu told Joy News leaders of the two factions have been cautioned by the District Security Council.
He however said security will be beefed up in the area until calm is restored.
