A Deputy Finance Minister is urging technocrats and other officials who implement government policies to school themselves on the fine details of decisions especially those approved by Parliament.
Seth Tekper believes this will equip such professionals with the requisite knowledge to execute their jobs professionally.
His comments follow suggestions by the Ghana Revenue Authority that plastic manufacturers are not enjoying the 5 percent reduction in the environmental tax promised in the 2012 budget because the Finance Ministry is yet to initiate its legislation in Parliament.
But Seth Tekper told Joy Business government has discharged its responsibility and cannot be blamed.
“I will like the opportunity to educate those who do research and educate the public to enquire from the tax policy unit of the Ministry of Finance to get the specific position on these issues,” he said.
He said technical staff with industries must also do well to abreast themselves with the various legislation as and when they are passed.
