The Adventist Students Association has said that examinations and lectures on Saturdays by the tertiary institutions are one of the challenges facing its members in those institutions.
They have therefore appealed to authorities of the universities and polytechnics to make alternative arrangement for them to enjoy their religious liberties as Ghanaians on the Sabbath day.
The National President of the Ghana National Association of Adventist Students Association (GNAAS), Kofi Asare, said this at a rally of the association at the University of Education, Winneba, under the theme, "Ghana's Jubilee and the Adventist Student".
He urged members of the association, as teachers, to explain government programme and policies such as the National Insurance Scheme, the re-denomination exercise and the new Educational Reform Programme to the people to ensure their success.
The District Chief Executive, Solomon Abbam-Quaye urged the students not to allow themselves to be used by politicians.
Dr. Cosmos Worlanyo Kofi Mereku, Dean of Students Affairs of the University of Education, Winneba said that some tertiary institutions hold lectures and examinations on Saturdays and that "the choice to attend or not to attend belongs to the student."
He said the institutions belong to the government and are run in accordance with the regulations establishing them and that the university would not accept any religious pleasure that could undermine its running.Source: GNA
