The female team of Tesano Spinners Table Tennis Club claimed their first trophy when they overpowered Ghana Army 3-0 in the grand finale to place first in the just ended Stanbic Bank National Table Tennis Competition on Saturday 29th April 2017, at D G Hathiramani Hall at the Accra Sports Stadium.
By this achievement, the ladies from Tesano Spinners have set a national record as being the first new entrants to win a trophy at the first attempt.
En route to annexing the trophy, Tesano Spinners trounced Western Table Tennis Club 3-0 in the preliminary round. This was followed by a 3-1 victory over 2016 champions, Ghana Navy in the quarter finals.
The semi-finals saw Tesano Spinners defeating Ghana Immigration service 3-1 to propel them to the finals of the competition.
In a very competitive final encounter, Ghana Army came strong with a very impressive game by Celia Baah-Danso. In the opening game of the finals, Celia, playing with experience, drew first blood by taking the first game against Fatimo Bello of Spinners. The game was exciting as it was full of long rallies, spins and loops. Spectators at the Hall were enthralled by the back-to- back adrenaline-filled action which set the hall into ecstasy.
This was a game of mental fortitude, wits, agility, ability to think on the table within nanoseconds and technical acuity from both camps. Fatimo drew strength from her extensive international exposure to win the match 3-1. In the second singles match, Odusanya Abosede won her game 3-0 for Tesano Spinners. In the doubles event, Anita Nyarkoa Obeng (Paloma), joined forces with Odusanya Abosede to win 3-0.
In the end, it was a well-deserved 3-0 win for the Tesano ladies. ‘They came, they saw, and they conquered’.
The female team made up of Anita Nyarkoa Obeng, Bello Fatimo, Linda Boateng, Odusanya Abosede, and Bimbola Osinbowale deserve their resounding victory having put in all the effort during their training sessions prior to the commencement of the tournament.

For their success, they received a magnificent trophy and a cash prize of one thousand Ghana Cedis. (Gh1,000.00).
CEO of Tesano Spinners, Charles Tachie-Menson, could not hide his excitement having won his maiden trophy just a year after forming the club. He attributes this victory to financial commitments from himself, major sponsors like Dream Oval Limited, Abdelco Limited, Engineer Kamal Deen Mahdi, US based Philanthropist Mawuli Seade, Mike Eghan Jnr, Kenneth Agbodza,
Francis Torkornoo, Nana Opoku Jackson, deputy captain James Boateng and his management team.
This year’s knockout competition saw an improved financial reward for winning teams and also saw the presence of stronger and talented players.
The male category was won by Ghana Immigration Service, made up of Ghana’s number 1 player Derek Abrefa, Emmanuel Commey, Felix Lartey and Emmanuel Asante.

With the National Table Tennis League commencing on Saturday 6 th May 2017, Tesano Spinners have vowed to start on a good note and eventually win the league for the first time.
According to captain of Tesano Spinners, Nathaniel Kwesi Somuah (Sigor), training regimens have been restructured to seal the loopholes observed during the knockout competition. Player motivation has been improved to ensure total commitment and dedication to the aim of coming out tops at the season and winning the diadem.
In his closing speech at the end of the competition, President of Ghana Table Tennis Association, Mawuko Afadzinu was excited at the level of competition on display and urged all players to train harder and achieve more success.
