Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is observed by Muslims worldwide as a sacred period of fasting, prayer, reflection and community.
It is also the month in which the Holy Qur’an is believed to have been revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. In 2026, Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of Wednesday, 18th February, and end on Thursday, 19th March, subject to the sighting of the moon.
The spiritual depth and significance of Ramadan took centre stage on this week’s episode of The Real Talk Podcast, hosted by Elizabeth Essuman.

Speaking on the podcast, guests Uti Dawah and Hafis offered deep insight into the spiritual journey of Ramadan, explaining that the observance extends far beyond abstaining from food and drink. They highlighted themes of discipline, worship, self-control and a strengthened relationship with Allah as central to the holy month.
The discussion also examined the broader spiritual and physical benefits of Ramadan, noting its role in strengthening faith, fostering self-discipline, enhancing wellbeing and promoting balance in daily life. Topics such as marriage, intimacy and other aspects of Islamic practice, including the significance of the Black Stone, were explored within the context of Ramadan.
The episode underscored a clear message: Ramadan is a period of transformation rather than mere ritual.
