Member of Parliament for Subin, Mr. Isaac Osei says the NPP smells victory in 2012 because “the NDC has woefully disappointed Ghanaians who would not renew their mandate come 2012”.
He was speaking at a ceremony organized by the Tertiary Education Students’ Congress (TESCON), on the Nyankpala campus of the UDS, to woo fresh students to the NPP and encourage continuing students to eschew cowardice and remain committed foot soldiers of the party.
Mr Osei commented on the parliamentary bye-elections at Chereponi, claiming the NDC is doing what he termed: “A face saving campaign,” but would still be defeated and called on the ruling party not to indulge in acts that would lead to violence since politics is not meant to divide the people.
Speaking at the ceremony, the president of the University for Development Studies (UDS) New Patriotic Party (NPP) branch of (TESCON), Mr Emmanuel Tetteh, also called on the youth to openly associate themselves with the political parties of their choice.
According to him, the era of political victimization against people who associate themselves with some political parties is over and stressed the need for student leaders and the youth to remain committed to the NPP for electoral victory in 2012.
He said they should not be swayed by any politician who would want to use money to buy their principles.
Some bigwigs of the NPP, including Professor Frempong Boateng and Mr Kwabena Adjapong who graced the occasion commended the student leaders for holding the NPP flag high in “a no go area”.
Mr Adjapong, previous spokesperson to former President John Agyekum Kufuor, called for unity within the NPP to ensure that power does not elude the party in 2012.
He noted that what mainly led to the party’s loss of power was complacency, adding, “This time we are going to march the NDC booth for booth to ensure that our people would not be intimidated.”
Mr Adjapong said Members of the Kufuor administration were clean saying: “Eight months down the line the current government has not been able to find anybody in the NPP regime corrupt.”
