Manchester United may have contributed to their 2:0 bashing by the enterprising FC Barcelona in their Uefa Champions League final Wednesday evening by offering a sloppy challenge. What was also clear, from the outset, was the obvious dissent by too many Ghanaians against a United triumph. From giant screens mounted at the premises of the Nima Police Station by Asempa FM, a local language broadcaster of the Multimedia Group Limited stables, to the 355 Faanofaa Street at Kokomlemle, headquarters of MGL's flagship radio, Joy 99.7FM, followers of Chelsea and Arsenal united in support of Barcelona, themselves having fallen by the way in the build-up to the final.Manchester got Arsenal out of the way in the semi-final, while Barcelona accounted for Chelsea in a bitter second semi-final game.It is obvious why Arsenal fans in Ghana may be peeved at a United success, but for Chelsea fans, it was more of 'if you can't beat them, frustrate them.' Why should Manchester United win everything? And when Samuel Eto'o Fils opened the scoring for Barca after 10 minutes, hell broke loose in the newsroom of Joy FM where staff watched events from monitors glued on Supersport3 Live.Programmes Director, Kofi Owusu, a die-in-the-wool Barca fan, enjoyed the unsolicited support of journalists Ato Kwamena Dadzie and Ernest Koranteng, Arsenal and Chelsea fans respectively as they poured scorn on the vociferous DJ, Nii Ayi Tagoe, Journalist and news anchor Evans Mensah and a hopeful Super Morning Show producer, Kofi Ansah.Outside the building, Joy Drive Time host and DJ Bola Ray, another Arsenal clone, led the chants in a Barca jersey. The chants grew louder as the game wore on, capped by Lionel Messi's 'cooler' goal. But United have themselves to blame though, playing too defensively and offering very little of a challenge. They were indeed disappointing, and their followers like Peter Gadzekpo of Joy FM's finance office, who perhaps saw defeat coming the way of his side, had no choice but to sneak out and away from the 'noisy' taunts of his colleagues.Story by Isaac Yeboah/Myjoyonline.com
