The Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has expressed its appreciation to TheGhanaGrand for supporting it with a cash donation.
Overwhelmed by the gesture, Dr Opoku Ware Ampomah, head of the Centre told Kojo Yankson on Joy News’ AM Show Thursday, that his team appreciates the efforts of personnel and time which have yielded about ¢200,000 to support his outfit.
“It was heartwarming when Iain Walker said he was going to do it but to actually see him do it is something else. We really grateful for that,” he told Kojo Yankson, host of the AM Show.
The appreciation comes on the back of a 1000 kilometre bicycle initiative led by the British High Commissioner to Ghana dubbed TheGhanaGrand tour.
The High Commissioner, Mr Iain Walker and his team set out on ten-day cycling, touring parts of Northen Ghana and Accra.
The tour raised awareness about the condition of burns, educated the public on preventive measures and raised money to support the unit.
Shedding light on the Burns Unit, Dr Opoku Ware Ampomah said: “burns represent one of the most prevalent but neglected conditions in our society.”
It is his expectation that the support will go a long way to improve facilities and treatment at the Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital.
