The Chief Executive of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) has disclosed that one of the prominent issues faced by the agency is the misappropriation of funds by some members of Water and Sanitation teams at the community levels.
Ing. Dr. Worlanyo Kwadjo Siabi claimed that because of this incident, he was frequently called to answer questions in Parliament.
Dr Siabi said this when he addressed some major issues as well as the CWSA's progress on the water and sanitation project at a press conference hosted by the Ministry of Information on Sunday.
The Civil Engineer told the public, "We (CWSA) have also noticed that there has been a lot of misapplication of funds within the communities."
He claimed that the team members failed to account for revenue collected to their respective assemblies.
"They (the Water and Sanitation Community Teams) were not accounting to the assemblies, and the assemblies also did not have enough resources and time to follow up on them," he told the public.
Dr Kwadjo Siabi attributed the situation to inadequate supervision on the part of the assemblies, which he said was due to lack of resources and time to do so.
Among other problems encountered by the CWSA that were highlighted at the media briefing, were technical and managerial capacity at the community level, inadequate financing, and huge accumulated electricity bills.
