Over the years, Joewackle J. Kusi has allowed himself to explore different forms of storytelling. Across film, audio experimentation, and theater, Joewackle is committed to telling Ghanaian stories.
His theater debut, 'There Is Rice At Home', opened as the closing performance of the Alliance Française Performing Arts Festival.
The stage play makes a funny, honest, and witty critique of grief and Ghanaian funeral culture. With breathtaking performances by Senanu Gbedawo, Adomaa, Godwin Namboh and Gina Castel, we are ushered into a fascinating experience of compelling storytelling, music and dance with original music by Adomaa.

There Is Rice At Home
On the eve of his best friend's funeral, a police officer comes face to face with a charming lady who introduces herself as Death. And like him, she has questions begging for answers. There Is Rice At Home is a riveting story of friendship, grief, and love.
Directed and written by Joewackle J. Kusi and Inyang Edoho, 'There Is Rice At Home' returns to Alliance Francaise, Accra on 18th December, 2025 with two shows; 6:30pm & 8:30pm.

About Joewackle J. Kusi
Joewackle J. Kusi is a Ghanaian multidisciplinary artist who uses film, audio experimentation and theater to tell bold, nuanced and inclusive human stories. His stories investigate how history, culture and social politics contribute to our lived identity.

His unique perspective is evident in his body of work, which includes; thought - provoking films on boyhood Lucky & Boys No Dey Cry, an evocative audio drama exploring Ghana's independence, Goodbye Gold, Coast, and Nyame Mma, a multiple-award winning film selected for multiple international film Festivals including the 77 Cannes Film Festival - Short Film Corner, BFI, Film Africa, Pan African Film Festival, Iris Prize, and Accra Indie Film Festival.

Joewackle is a fellow of the 2024 International Sound Documentary Summer Program at Ecole Nationale Supérieure Louis-Lumière in France, and was selected for the 2025 Durban Talents.
