Two heavily built men have assaulted a radio presenter at Kessben FM, a Kumasi-based radio station in the Ashanti Region for reasons that remain unclear. The presenter Oduro Kwarteng was severely beaten after the thugs stormed the front desk of the station and demanded the whereabouts of one Louis. They threatened to kill, beat personnel of the station and burn it down. Luv FM's Erastus Asante reports that four thugs stormed the premises at 9:30pm on Monday. Two stayed in a waiting taxi while two climbed to the third floor of the building housing the radio station. Unable to locate the said Louis, the two thugs beat up the front desk executive who is also a presenter, Oduro Kwarteng also known as "DJ Eleven, Eleven". The assault left him with a swollen eye. The exact motivation for the assault is unclear but the gangsters identified two controversial issues raging on in Kumasi during the threatening spree: accused the station of making disparaging remarks about the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II; they also linked Louis, who was their target, to a controversy surrounding a local pastor in Kumasi known as "Asomdwe Bofuor". Speaking on Joy FM's Top Story, programmes manager at Kessben FM, Omanhene Adu Boakye said they have reported the matter to the police. He explains that on Monday, they discussed a feature story on an online newspaper authored by Alhaji Mohammed. He said the station drew the attention of the Asanteman Traditional Council to react to the defamatory story before it went on air to discuss the matter, which was also being shared via Whatsapp. The article claimed President John Mahama and his Vice called on the Asantehene to impress upon Justice Akoto Bamfo, a Supreme Court judge to rule in favour of the President in a landmark election petition. Omanhene Adu Boakye said they have reported the matter to the police and will be handing over CCTV tapes to the police to assist with investigations. The Public Affairs Director of the Ashanti Regional Police Mohammed Tanko said the police is taking a statement from the victim and a witness to the incident. He said it is too early to determine the exact cause of the attack because the police do not have enough facts. He appealed to the public for time to finish investigations.
