Subscriber base figures from the National Communication Authority (NCA) for the period ending July 2012 indicates Tigo Ghana has gained a further 145,911 subscribers to reach 3,699,185 in the second consecutive month of turnaround from eight months of decline.
July is just the second month of Adil El Youssefi as Tigo Ghana GM, and the company is already showing signs of taking back its lost glory.
Tigo experienced the first turnaround in June this year gaining over 195,000 subscriber from in 3,457,427 May to 3,553,274 in June, according to subscriber base and market share report from the National Communication Authority.
With the further gain in July, Tigo now commands some 15.6% market share of the total mobile subscription of 23,658,697. This is a marginal increase of 0.4% from the 15.2% market share in June this year.
The new Tigo Ghana Boss, Youssefi had said in an interview with Adom News "we have figured out what the challenges are and what need to be done to fix it and so you will see the results of our strategies in the subsequent months."
Youssefi was also confident that his experiences from other markets in Europe, Asia and elsewhere in Africa, plus Tigo Ghana's own innovative products, network quality and most affordable tariffs would tell on its performance going forward.
Meanwhile, Vodafone, which had been gaining subscribers since it entered the country, experienced the first subscriber base decline from 4,819,700 in June, to 4,758,272.
Vodafone’s loss of 61,428 subscribers left it with 20.1% market share, which is a 0.5% fall from 20.6% market share a month ago.
Expresso also decreased its subscriber base to 182,845, which represents 0.8% of the total market share, a 0.17% dip.
Glo also continued chipping away market share from the other players, increasing its subscriber base further to 1,152,474, representing 4.9% market share; a 0.7% increase from 4.2% last month.
MTN had a marginal increase in subscriber base but lost market share marginally.
The company's maintained it position as market leader with 10,828,585 subscribers representing 45.8% market share, which is a further 0.2% dip from June this year.
Airtel also increased its subscriber base to 3,037,336 representing 12.8% of the total market share, a 0.1% dip from June.
