Millicom Ghana Limited, operators of Tigo network has launched three innovative products to benefit its subscribers.The three products are the Tigo Family Care Insurance, Tigo Facebook phone and Tigo Ads.The Media and Advertising Manager of Tigo, Mr. Enoch Tetteh Quaynor-Vanderpuye told journalists that the Tigo Family Care Insurance provides life insurance cover for prepaid subscribers and any one member of their families aged between 18 and 69 years.
He said registered subscribers who spend GH¢5 in a month stand to get GH¢200 insurance cover for themselves and for the family member they register in the event of a natural death.Mr. Quaynor-Vanderpuye said “GH¢10 spent in a month qualifies the subscriber for an insurance cover worth GH¢400, GH¢15 spent earns GH¢600 insurance cover, GH¢25 earns GH¢800 and GH¢40 earns GH¢1,000 insurance cover.”He said in the event of the natural death of the subscriber’s family member registered on the Family Care Insurance, the subscriber would be required to make a report with an ID and a death certificate to redeem the cover amount in 72 hours.Mr. Quaynor-Vanderpuye however noted that an insurance cover for a particular month cannot be rolled over if not claimed in that month.
“The product covers only natural death, which does not include deaths caused by war, riot, criminal activity, and drug or alcohol abuse,” he said.He said the company is packaging a similar product for postpaid customers in the near future.The Voice Entertainment Manager of Tigo, Jojo Quansah, who made a presentation on the Tigo facebook phone said, the phone goes for GH¢49.99, has a QWERTY keyboard and allows customers to access facebook just by the press of a key on the handset.“It also comes with one gigabyte free data, free GH¢5 call/SMS credit and has a radio,” he said.The Mobile Ads Manager of Tigo said the Tigo ads is a permission-based advertising service, where prepaid subscribers interested in the service would have to text the word “JOIN” to short code 9000 to start receiving ads on automobile, airlines, financial services, beauty products and others for free.The first beneficiary of the Tigo Family Care Insurance, Nana Yaa Konadu said she registered her dad on the product and he passed away in September last year and that Tigo gave her GH¢800 in 72 hours after she presented her father’s ID and death certificate.Chief Executive Officer of Tigo Ghana, Carlos Caceres said the three products are the first of their kind in the country and in the West Africa sub-region, and they were intended to make Tigo customers really express themselves.Story by: Samuel Nii Narku Dowuona/Adom News/Ghana
