Tigo is partnering the Otumfuo Charity Fund and the Ghana Education Service to present this year’s Otumfuo Teachers and Educational Workers Awards.
The awards ceremony is slated for Monday, May 7, 2012 and will reward over 250 deserving teachers and educational workers from rural areas in all the 10 regions of Ghana.
A statement from Tigo quoted Head of Marketing Services, Tenu Awoonor as saying Tigo’s association with the awards scheme was in line with Tigo’s CSR agenda to improve lives and support communities where it operated, especially in the area of education.
“Tigo has demonstrated its commitment to improving education by sponsoring educational activities such as “The Challenge Competition”- which is an educational reality TV show where selected university graduates go through weeks of talent honing challenges,” he said.
He said the company also sponsored the ICT Quiz competitions and motivational road shows in tertiary institutions across the country, and was also partnering the Otumfuo Teachers Awards for the second year running.
Tenu Awoonor noted that Tigo was elated at the criteria used to select awardees, especially at the fact that special focus was given to teachers serving in rural Ghana and hoped the awards scheme would bring smiles to the faces of teachers all over Ghana especially those who are making tremendous sacrifices for the greater good of the country.
He applauded the Asantehene for instituting the awards and many other commendable initiatives and thanked him for inviting Tigo Ghana to be a part of ‘this worthy event.’
The Otumfuo Teachers and Educational Workers Awards is in its second year and it is designed to ultimately encourage teachers to take up postings into rural areas and to motivate those who are already there to worker harder.
