Tigo Ghana says it has started paying claims to its Tigo Family Care Insurance subscribers through its Tigo Cash mobile money.A statement from the company said it had partnered with Vanguard Life Insurance and paid over 100 insurance claims to Tigo Family Care Insurance subscribers since December 2010.It added that “effective last week claimants received their insurance cash directly to their phones and could withdraw it from any Tigo Cash Agent or Tigo Customer Service Centre nationwide.”The statement said Tigo honors insurance claims within 72 hours of receiving all required documentation and is now taking this promise of fast and reliable insurance claims delivery one step further by enabling claims payments through its Tigo Cash.Tigo Family Care Insurance is a life insurance offer from Tigo and Vanguard Life providing cover to subscribers in the event of passing of the subscriber or a family member. The insurance ranges from Ghc200 to Ghc1,000 depending on the customer’s monthly airtime usage.A customer qualifies for the service from spending a minimum of GHC5 of Tigo airtime per month.“For customers that wish to get higher insurance levels, Tigo recommends its Xtra-Life insurance product, where a customer agrees to pay 5Gp per day, customers who have already signed up for the free coverage will double their benefit in the event of a loss of a nominated family member,” the statement said. The statement quoted Head of Mobile Financial Services at Tigo, Selorm Adadevoh as saying “with customer experience as Tigo’s top priority, paying out insurance claims through Tigo Cash has helped Tigo Family Care Insurance continue to demonstrate steadfast commitment to its promise of paying claims within 72 hours.”Tigo Cash is a service for sending cash from phones and allows persons from 18 years upwards to send cash from anywhere to anyone on any network – not just Tigo.“With Tigo Family Care Insurance and Tigo Cash Ghanaians can experience a whole new access to financial services – easy, fast and convenient,” the statement said.
