Former Deputy Transport Minister and ex-MP for Tema East, Titus Nii Kwartei Glover, has shared a near-death experience he survived while on official duty in 2015.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Mr Glover recalled that as a deputy ranking member on the Trade, Industry, and Tourism Committee, he and four other MPs were travelling from Tamale aboard an Antrak Air flight when disaster struck.
“About 20 minutes after take-off, the pilot announced there was an emergency and we were returning to the airport. From my seat, I could see the wing burning. Thankfully, the experienced pilot landed us safely, where fire service personnel were already on standby. We later discovered aviation fuel was leaking. It was only God who saved us,” he recounted.
Mr Glover was reflecting on the dangers of air travel in light of the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
The ministers and their entourage were headed to Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Co-operative Mining and Skills Development Programme when their aircraft went down in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
