An in-depth investigation conducted by the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) has established that Kinapharma Limited was the company that supplied the expired Malaria drug to Goaso Government Hospital in the Brong Ahafo Region, which led to the arrest of the Chief Pharmacist of that Hospital and not Tobinco.
It was reported last week that Tobinco Pharmaceuticals limited was the supplier of the expired Malaria Drug, Lumether 280 to the Goaso Government hospital which had received a report from a patient who had taken the drug.
However, following a thorough investigation, the BNI has established that the expired malaria drug was supplied by Kinapharma Limited thereby exonerating Tobinco .
The report further revealed that, the Chief Pharmacist at the Government Hospital, Agyeman Badu indicated that upon receiving the complaint and discovery that Kinapharma supplied the drug, the Hospital Management invited Kofi Nsiah Poku, Chief Executive Officer of Kinapharma Limited to a meeting.
At the said meeting, Mr. Nsiah Poku made an admission that his company was at fault and as a result paid an amount of one thousand five hundred Ghana Cedis to the patient as compensation and also replaced all expired products for the hospital.
“It is emphasized that Agyeman Badu was questioned on expired Kinapharma drugs and not on anything to do with Tobinco,” the BNI report emphasized.
