A special operation team of the Ghana Armed Forces in the North East Region has arrested a Togolese national, one Duut Laabik for attempting to register for the new voters' ID card at Najong 1 in the Bunkpurugu constituency.
The suspect has since been handed over to officers of the Immigration Services and the police in the area for further action.
District Immigration Officer Supt. Adjetey Doku who confirmed the arrest to JoyNews said, the suspect admitted to being Togolese.

According to him, Duut Laabik said he was in Ghana to register for the health insurance card but decided to get a voters' ID card when he saw people queuing for it.
The Immigration Officer tells JoyNews, the special operation team have also chased away dozens of Togolese nationals who had queued to take part in the exercise at a registration in Kambatiak, a border community in the district.
He used the opportunity to issue a strong-worded warning to foreigners who might be planning to illegally cross the borders for any reason.
He said they would be apprehended and prosecuted.
