It was another good weekend for Ghanaian players abroad with two experienced players making the list whilst there were also three newcomers. Here are five standout Ghanaian players from the weekend as picked by the Joy Sports Owuraku Ampofo.
Andre Ayew – Swansea City
Swansea vice-captain Andre Ayew scored a brace which helped his side end a run of six league games without a win as they defeated nine-man Middlesbrough at the Liberty Stadium.
The 28-year-old winger found the net just after 20 minutes, converting from the spot after being bundled over by Dael Fry inside the box.
Swansea took full advantage of a red card handed to Boro’ Marcus Browne with Ayew grabbing his ninth of the season to win 3-1.
Thomas Partey – Atletico Madrid
The box-to-box midfielder was ever-present again, as Atletico Madrid made home advantage count against Osasuna.
Thomas Partey made his 15th La Liga appearance of the season as Atletico Madrid got the better of Osasuna in a 2-0 win at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday night.
Los Rojiblancos were without a victory in their previous three league matches, drawing two and losing one, which dropped them out of the top four
Partey completed 90 minutes of play for the eighth time this term, putting together 35 accurate passes at 74.5%, 63 touches, one shot on target, two successful dribbles from two attempts, one interception, two clearances and three tackles.
Maxwell Boadu Acosty – HNK Rijeka
Ghanaian forward Maxwell Boadu Acosty was on target for HNK Rijeka against NK Varazdin.
The 28-year-old Ghanaian attacker netted his third league goal of the season for Rejika in their 3-1 win in the Croatian top-flight on Saturday.
The win sends Rijeka to second place in the Croatian top flight.
Bright Addae – Juve Stabia
Former Black Satellite versatile player Bright Addae was on target for Juve Stabia in their win over Chievo Verona.
The 2009 FIFA Under-20 World Cup winner scored his first league goal in the Serie B this season in their 3-2 away win over Chievo Verona on Friday.
Addae, 26, enjoyed the full duration of the 90 minutes as his side ended their two-game losing streak.
Jeremie Frimpong - Celtic
Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Jeremie Frimpong netted his first goal for the club in their 2-0 win against Hibernian on Sunday, to add to a string of impressive performances for the Hoops.
The 18-year old joined the Scottish Champions from Manchester City in the summer for 350,000 pounds.
