The management of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has announced plans to resume full operations by October 2025.
According to officials, the refinery’s return to optimal function is expected to reduce the country’s reliance on imported refined petroleum products.
Appearing before the Energy Committee of Parliament, the Acting Managing Director of TOR, Edmund Kombat, disclosed that the refinery aims to process up to 60% of Ghana’s crude oil consumption to help the nation save an estimated US$400 million spent monthly on refined oil imports.
TOR suspended its operations in 2021 due to the unavailability of crude oil.
However, the Acting MD assured the committee that strategic measures are being implemented to revamp and sustain the refinery's operations.
He also revealed that TOR has not had its accounts audited since 2019.
He, however, assured the committee that steps are being taken to complete the audit by next month and present the financial reports to Parliament.
