In its bid to stay afloat and strengthen its grass root publicity machinery in order to confront the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is organizing a sensitization workshop for members of the Ashanti Regional Communication Network of the party, commonly known as Serial Callers.
The one-day workshop is aimed at educating members of the network on the socio-economic achievements of the past administration under former President Kufuor and also enhance them with the needed information to enable them argue with their counterparts in the NDC.
The sensitization workshop, which would periodically be held by the party would among other things, draw comparison between the performance of the two political parties- NPP and NDC and explore the weaknesses of the ruling party as well as the need for the NPP to come back to power in 2012.
A co-ordinator of the programme, Mr. J. K. Owusu Boakye, who is also the Special Assistant to the MP for Old Tafo, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, told The Chronicle in an interview that the opposition party was determined to set the record straight and let the public know the difference between the NPP and the NDC.
According to him, current developments in the country have given the opposition party an edge over its main opponent and that the NPP was determined to capitalize on the situation.
He maintained that the continuous decline in the country's economic growth under the NDC government amply justifies the initial fears expressed by the then government of the NPP that the nation would return to its dark days if the NDC was voted back to power.
Mr. Owusu Boakye said notwithstanding the fact that the NDC government had lost popularity and the confidence of the people, the NPP would not leave any stone unturned in its quest to reclaim power in 2012, by continuing to actively engage its supporters across the country.
