The Trade Ministry has constituted a committee to develop a national strategy for the development of the yam industry.
The committee draws its membership from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Export Promotion Authority, the Root Crops and Tubers Exporters, the Bank of Ghana as well as the Ministries of Trade and Agriculture.
Chairman of the Committee, Anthony Sikpa tells Joy Business the strategy should make yam an industrial crop to match revenue generated from cocoa.
“If we give all the support systems that Cocoa to yam production has we should be able to do it. Research, Funding, Market Linkages and Training for the farmers in new productive agro practices that is what is going give it” he said.
