A devastating road traffic accident in the Bia West District of the Western Region has left seven people dead after a collision between a timber truck and a tricycle on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

The accident occurred at Asikuma, a town located along the Bia West road, prompting an immediate and coordinated emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Police, and Ambulance Services.

The distress call regarding the incident was received at 08:55 am, and a rescue team from the GNFS, led by Assistant Station Officer (ASTNO) Wonder, arrived on the scene just five minutes later, at 09:00 am.

Their swift response ensured that the rescue operation was promptly launched and coordinated with the other emergency services on site.

According to a post shared on Facebook by GNFS, upon arrival, GNFS personnel took charge of the situation, leading efforts to ensure the safety of those on the scene and working to extricate those trapped in the wreckage.

The team worked in close collaboration with officers from the Ghana Police Service and medical staff from the Ambulance Service to manage the casualties and secure the area.

The horrific crash involved a timber truck (registration number AS 9304-17) and a tricycle, resulting in the tragic loss of life. Seven fatalities were confirmed: five victims were declared dead at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries later at the Essam Government Hospital.

The deceased have not yet been named, but their bodies were collected by the Police for autopsy and further investigation.
