The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested three suspects following the interception of approximately five million tramadol tablets with an estimated street value of GH¢100 million at the Accra International Airport (AIA).
The arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation after officials intercepted a shipment believed to contain the illicit pharmaceutical drugs.
In a post on Facebook on Friday, July 17, NACOC said the operation forms part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and safeguard public health and national security.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment was intended for distribution within Ghana and possibly other countries in the sub-region.
Investigators suspect the seizure is linked to a wider drug trafficking syndicate and are pursuing further leads to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the operation.

The Commission said the recovered tramadol tablets have been secured as evidence, while forensic and documentary examinations are ongoing to support the investigations.
NACOC reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and bringing those responsible to justice. It also urged members of the public to support law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities.

The three suspects are expected to be arraigned before court upon the conclusion of investigations in accordance with Ghana's narcotics laws.
