The Interim Council of UHAS met you for the first time on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the Residency. The meeting was at your instance. You had assumed duty as Regional Minister for the Volta Region barely two weeks earlier. You assured us that one of your main assignments was to assist the Interim Council to open the University in September 2012, and that your administration would provide a supportive environment but would not interfere with the management of the University. You kept that promise and we are sincerely grateful.
You believed that the District and Municipal Assemblies in the Region should contribute towards the building of the University. We understand that the proposal is under serious consideration at the District and Municipal Assemblies. You worked with the Interim Council to improve the temporary structures provided for the University. Together with Council, you ensured that additional facilities were made available.
You put at our disposal your knowledge about land administration and helped to streamline and speed up the process of acquisition of the land for the University’s permanent site at Sokode Lokoe. It is to your credit that the Land Acquisition Plan has been completed and the relevant documents are now at the Attorney Generals Department awaiting the publication of the relevant Executive Instrument.
You demonstrated your personal commitment to the development of the University by visiting the institution on many occasions, often alone and without fanfare. Such visits were followed by telephone calls to Council members and discussions with the University Management on how facilities might be improved or put to optimal use. It is, therefore, not surprising that you formed personal relationships with members of the Interim Council and Management.
Council recalls your official visit to the University in October 2012 during which you interacted with the faculty and assured students of the commitment of Government. The University will treasure pictures of the bus ride you took with Management of the University and members of your entourage during the visit. We also remember very fondly the various roles you played during the Inauguration of the University on November 16, 2012 by the Vice-President of the Republic.
Hon. Henry Ford Kamel, you gave the University of Health and Allied Sciences your best effort within the nine months that you served as the Regional Minister. On behalf of the Interim Council, Management, Faculty, Staff and Students of the University, I say Ayekoo. May your soul find rest with your Maker.
Prof. Kofi Anyidoho
Chairman of the Interim Council
On behalf of the University.
