The Nyinahin Magistrates' Court presided over by Mr. Augustine Essah, has imposed a fine of GH¢920 on Kwame Enoch 24, and Kwabena Gyamfi 26, for assaulting Adwoa Afrah, a pregnant woman.The court also ordered the two accused persons to pay GH¢100 each to the complainant as compensation.The accused persons who pleaded not guilty would serve 12 months imprisonment each if they failed to pay the fine and the compensation.Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector David Nkrumah Danso told the court that on January 19, 2007, the two accused persons conspired and set ablaze a palm plantation belonging to Amma Duku of Abofrem near Nyinahin.Madam Amma Duku confronted the two for the crime they had committed.The prosecution said the accused persons suspecting that it was Afrah who informed the plantation owner about the act went to her house and beat her mercilessly.He said Afrah reported the case to the Unit Committee Members at Abofrem, but the two resisted arrest.Chief Inspector Danso said Enoch also threatened to kill Mr. Kusi Appiah, the Unit Committee Chairman.Inspector Danso said the two were overpowered and arrested by the Nyinahin Police and charged after investigations.Source: GNA
