Two young Ghanaian IT companies, Dropifi and SMSGH have been named in this year’s edition of Forbes Africa Magazine’s Top 20 Technology Start Up Companies in Africa. Dropifi, a web messaging platform came in third, while SMSGH, a digital content aggregation company came in at 17th on a list that had leading technology startups from South Africa, Kenya, and even the UK. The prestigious list comprised technology startups, which were less than 10 years old, showed relevance in helping to overcome Africa’s problems in areas like communications and skills shortage, had an online presence and demonstrated social media activity, and had a Pan-African presence and or ownership. Dropifi is less than one year old, fully-owned by three Ghanaian young men, and has developed a programme that would provide businesses organizations with the opportunity to obtain more information from persons who fill out contact forms, thus converting such people into customers. The service is due to be launched in July this year, but it already has over 1,000 companies signing up as prospective customers. It also promises intelligent and Spam-free inboxes, and to help businesses to gain instant insight into industry metrics and other information in order to make quicker and better business decision. But that was not the first and only time Dropifi had gained international media recognition; the company was recently ranked third Top Technology Start-up in Africa by ITNewsAfrica.com; fourth Top Brilliant African Technology Start-up by MemeBurn.com, and it also won Startupweekend Accra competition in Ghana recently. SMSGH also made the Forbes list because it is only seven years old, completely owned by Ghanaian young men led by a KNUST Chemistry Graduate, Alex Adjei Bram; has an online presence and provides on-the-job training for several fresh IT Engineering and Programming graduates, and has provided full-time jobs to 23 of them so far.
