The Assin Foso district magistrate's court, on Wednesday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of two Managing Directors for allegedly failing to pay an amount of GH¢765.52, as their workers’ Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributions.
The court, presided over by Mr Joseph Blay gave the order when the accused persons, Kwabena Affum, Managing Director of Assin Foso MOBAF Timbers Company and Isaac Arthur, Managing Director of Assin Foso SAI Enterprise failed to appear in court on Tuesday.
The two had been served with summons to appear in court for failing to pay their workers SSNIT contributions.
The case was adjourned to February 21, 2008.
The SSNIT prosecuting officer, Mr C.V. Wood-Ackom, alleged that from January 2005 to October 2007, Affum deducted a total of GH¢340.00 from his workers’ salaries but failed to pay to the Fund and also failed to pay GH¢194.70 being three percent cumulative penalty levied on an unpaid Social Security contributions of his workers.
He further alleged that Arthur, Managing Director of SAI Enterprise also from January 2005 to September 2007 deducted a total of GH¢155.60 but failed to pay the amount to SSNIT as well as GH¢75.22 penalty levied on the unpaid Social Security deductions to the Fund.
Mr Wood-Ackom told the court that several personal contacts, telephone calls, demand notice and persuasions were made by the Trust, but two men failed to pay.Source: GNA
